It was very exciting to have Nana and Grandad arrive on the 10th October. They arrived bright and early which meant dropping the kids off at school before they had even had a chance to have a shower or brush their teeth!
Allan spent the first couple of days showing them around Prague. They visited the castle, Old Town, various shopping malls and enjoyed riding the Trams. Their first weekend was the annual school Welcome Picnic where they came and enjoyed food from all over the world. Unfortunately Leo was a little grumpy and sick, so Allan and Corban took them on a night tour of the castle and city that evening.
The weather wasn't the best on Sunday but we drove to Cesky Krumlov anyway for a look around the town and castle. We managed to stay mostly dry and ate lunch in a small cafe. Corban was stung by a bee and Leo fell asleep on a park bench, so Nana and Grandad did the castle walk with Allan and Corban (applying ice that Nana managed to get from the cafe). Cesky Krumlov castle was beautiful and even had bears in the moat.
During the week Nana and Grandad managed to do plenty of sight seeing. They did a day trip to Kutna Hora to visit the Gothic Cathedral and Bone Church. Another day was spent at Vysehrad Cathedral and garden, they even managed a half day trip to Plzen.
A highlight was being able to celebrate Nana's 70th birthday with her. Allan booked a restaurant on the river with a spectacular view of the Castle and Charles bridge. After dinner we headed home for birthday cake which Allan brought so that Nana could have a Czech Honey Cake. Leo was so excited about Nana's birthday that he kept letting her in on the secret of where we were going and guarding the door when the cake was getting the candles lit.
It wasn't sad seeing Nana and Grandad off on the bus on Saturday morning because we know that we'll see them again in a couple of weeks and that they have some wonderful adventures ahead of them on their tour!
