Orange, a set on Flickr.
On our way to the French Alps we stopped for a visit in Orange which is home to Theatre antique d’Orange which was built about 40 BC and was the centre of Roman life for many years until it was closed down by the Church in 391 AD. During the middle ages the town was built both around and inside the theatre. It was invaded countless times, had many artifacts stolen or burnt. During the 19th Century restoration began (by the church and community) and the theatre was restored. It still has performances today, you can see some of the set up in the photos. Leo figured out the acoustics pretty quickly and enjoyed listening to himself. Everything about the theatre was fascinating, from the way it was built, all the changes, wars, and how it withstood time. In Orange we also the Arc de Triomphe which was built by the Romans. It is amazing to see statues, structures and building dating back about 400 BC.
