Pigra & Villa Balbainello

Probably one of our best days so far!  We began the day by driving to Lake Como and taking a cable car to a little village called Pigra.  The view from the cable car and top of the mountain were stunning.  We couldn’t believe that people still lived in the little stone village.  We were amazed when we walked through; it was awesome with lots of little twists and turns, tunnels, steps and cute buildings with little doors.  From here we walked further up the mountain through funny little stone streets.  Arriving near the top I got a fright from a little snake that poked its head out of a wall!  Taylor and I continued higher up the mountain while Allan and Nicolette began walking the little kids back down.  The walk down was steep and tricky; Corban and Leo did well to manage the whole walk without being carried.  We even got to see some funny donkeys next to a small church on the way down, the donkeys had us all laughing.  After our big walk we headed to Villa Balbainello where many famous movies have been filmed like Star Wars, 007 and Oceans 12.  The villa and gardens were absolutely stunning.  Everything was perfectly manicured and luscious, with great balconies overlooking the lake.  We stayed until the sun was setting and were the last people to leave.  It was a fantastic day out and a totally different side of Italy!  Not to mention we got invited to our neighbours for Gelato (Italian ice cream) by our neighbours.  They brought 12 different flavours for us to try, delicious.
