Winter Palace - Hermitage Museum

After picking up our camera from the restaurant we headed to the Winter Palace/Hermitage Museum.  Thankfully we had brought our tickets in advance, the first Thursday of every month is free.  The line was several hours long, our tickets meant we could completely skip the cue.  The downside was, if we had known we would have gone the day before because the museum was so busy and crowded.

It is debated whether the Louvre or the Hermitage Museum is the biggest in the world.  We have now been to both, so either way we’ve gone to the biggest museums.  It is said that if you look at each item in the museum for 1 minute it would take 5 years to look at everything.

The museum had some artifacts that we have not seen before which was great, the best things we were not allowed to take photos of.  There was a whole display of royal clothing, the detail, design and effort that went into the clothing was tremendous (Kristen would of loved it).  Each piece of clothing also had a description of who wore it and when.  There was also tableware that was made of brass, silver and gold.  The pieces were huge and had the most intricate detail, it makes what we use now look so simple and basic.  It also had a large collection of armour, once again the detail and design was outstanding.  Leo especially likes looking at the armour and liked the fact that he found a child-sized suit of armour that would of fitted him.

Visiting a museum takes a whole day or longer.  For us it was a relatively quick visit as we had to leave by 2pm so we could get back to the hostel and pick up our things; to catch the ferry bus back to the ship.  I didn’t include many photos of the museum online, there were just far too many.

Once again we enjoyed another ship ride home.  There was a little blow up pool on one of the decks that Corban and Leo made use of.  We had to laugh when groups of Asian tourist would stop to take their photos.  The little kids enjoyed another kids show in ‘Russian’ and we watched another show, this time there was lots of traditional Russian dancing.
